CEO's column: Inaugural IPWEA Australasia Excellence Awards

As an industry, we should be proud of the infrastructure achievements that are recognised as being outstanding.

Our communities expect good things from local government, but seldom do we get to hold-up our local projects to our community and say, “Hey, Mrs and Mr Ratepayer, we have been recognised for our outstanding work on this project. This proves that our council really is delivering best-in-class projects for our community."

Each IPWEA Division has award categories which applaud excellence from within that Division.

The time has now come when IPWEA should recognise the best-of-the-best; the ultimate accolade of excellence across Australasia. Will our friendly Kiwis scoop the pool or will the Aussies give them a run for their money? If the Kiwi contingent starts the evening with the Haka, the Aussies could be in trouble!

One thing is for sure – with almost 80 finalists across 2015/16/17 and each Division, the competition will be fierce. An unimpeachable judging panel has been assembled and they are currently ploughing through the state/NZ winners. With representatives in attendance on the night from every finalist, we expect plenty of loud, parochial cheering for each entry as it is showcased at the Gala Platinum Awards Dinner. The awards are proudly presented by Ventia who are aligning their business ethos with the IPWEA Australasia Excellence Awards.

Good luck to all finalists. To see the full list of finalists and who you are up against, check out the next edition of our e-magazine, inspire, out next week.
