Councils are being encouraged to get tweeting for Local Government Twitter Day on Tuesday, 1 August.

The aim of the day is to share the diverse range of council services with the Twitter community and to increase awareness of the important work that local government does.

The day will be led by a coalition of every local government peak body in Australia, as well as the Australian Local Government Association.

The hashtag to be used on the day is: #yourratesatwork

As the peak body for public works engineers, IPWEA is encouraging professionals who provide essential community infrastructure to showcase the vital work they do. 

ALGA is also inviting key peak bodies (like state libraries), influential champions and other levels of government to join the fun and help showcase the work of local government.
