Most IPWEA Divisions conduct excellence awards competitions at their State conferences to showcase excellence from the industry within their state or New Zealand.

These awards are keenly sought and are highly prized. They provide recognition of excellence in public works infrastructure and showcase the diversity of projects, innovation within the industry and professionalism of those involved in managing these projects/services.

Awards will be made in the following categories:

1. Best Public Works Project 2016/17:

  • under $2.0m
  • $2.0m - $5.0m
  • >$5.0m
2. Excellence in Asset Management 2016/17

3. Excellence in Project Innovation 2016/17

4. Excellence in Water Project 2016/17

5. Excellence in Road Safety Project 2016/17

6. Excellence in Environment & Sustainability 2016/17

7. IPWEA Australasia Public Works Medal for Project of the Year 2016/17
Sponsored by Engineers Australia (selected from one of the above award winners)

The following awards to individuals will also be made:

National Asset Management Award (NAMie) - for Best Asset Management Paper presented at the conference

E.J. (Ted) Hooper Medal – for the best Overall Paper presented at the conference

Young IPWEA Emerging Leader Award 2016/17

IPWEA Australasia Public Works Leadership Medal 2016/17 (Sponsored by Engineers Australia)

Keith H Woods Medal – to recognise outstanding service to local government engineering and to IPWEA

Early bird prices for the conference are available until the end of June! Register now

Who is eligible to enter?

Only winners from each Division are eligible to enter.  The only exception to this is the Keith H Woods Medal which is open to all the industry to nominate through their Division, details available here. The Ted Hooper Medal and the NAMie Award are judged on papers presented at the conference.

Winning projects and individuals from each IPWEA Division will be automatically entered into the corresponding (or closest aligned) Australasia category.

As IPWEA Divisions conduct their awards annually, but the IPWEA Australasia International conference is conducted biennially, winners from each IPWEA Division for the last two years (2016 & 2017 or 2015 & 2016) dependent upon when the respective Division awards have been conducted, will be automatically entered as Finalists into the Australasia awards.

Not every category that receives an award at Division level will have a corresponding nor perfect fit at the Australasia awards. Some Division winners in some categories will not have a corresponding Australasia category and therefore will be ineligible for any Australasia award.

Do Australian State or NZ winners need to do anything?

Winners do not need to renominate or take any action. Winners’ details will be forwarded by each IPWEA Division. There is no cost to nominate.

It is condition of your nomination being submitted that at least one (1) project representative must be in attendance at the Gala Awards Dinner on Wednesday 23 August 2017 at Perth. Failure to have at least one representative at the gala dinner will result in that award being withdrawn from eligibility as a Finalist.
