The only internationally relevant, online asset management course for public infrastructure that gives participants the practical tools to create their organisation’s asset management plan is back again.

IPWEA’s Professional Certificate in Asset Management Planning is delivered through eight live webinar sessions, which can be re-watched at any time during the course. Participants can interact with presenters and other participants during online ‘live’ sessions and are required to complete coursework to achieve the accreditation.

The next certificate kicks off 23 August, with the last module delivered on 25 October.

Successful participants gain an IPWEA Professional Certificate in AM Planning whilst drafting an asset management plan for their organisation.

Give your career a helping hand

More than 400 practitioners have undertaken the certificate so far, with a high successful completion rate of 75%.

Hydraulic and water engineer Sogol Ghobad directly credited the IPWEA Professional Certificate with securing a promotion with her then-employer, Cabonne Shire Council.

“In engineering, nowadays, asset management is a crucial area,” she says. “Engineers and other public works professionals need to understand that – so I really needed to know more.”

“All my questions were answered during the course. The most significant thing about the course was I was able to prepare an asset management plan on my own as part of the course.”

A truly international program

IPWEA Director International Chris Champion says of those 400 past-participants, about 15% have been international. The course is aligned to the ISO 55001 asset management standard, making it universally recognised and relevant.

“The foundation of the certificate course is the newly released 2015 International Infrastructure Management Manual (IIMM), which is also the global reference manual for applying asset management across all industries, both public and private,” Champion says.

“The course is growing internationally – now we have many people joining us from many different countries, including Australia, Canada, Malaysia, NZ, Philippines, South Africa and the United States.

“The live modules are presented by our skilled and experienced presenters based out of both Australia and Canada bringing a truly international flavor to the program.”

“It’s an opportunity for practitioners around the globe to jump ahead by learning the concepts and using tools that have been developed and used in Australia over the past 15 years.”

This next program will have the live webinar sessions will start two hours earlier, at 10am AEST, making it even more convenient for practitioners across North America and Asia. The recorded sessions are also convenient for participants from the UK and Europe.

City of Calgary, Canada Business Operations Analyst Troy Sykes completed the course in 2015.

“The IPWEA Professional Certificate course not only provides a valuable asset management education opportunity, it also gives participants an asset management qualification,” Sykes says.

“Take this course, not because it’s easy, but because it is hard and practical. Participants will learn valuable asset management skills in a real life situation.”
