Why international members are turning to IPWEA’s Professional Certificate in AM Planning

IPWEA’s online Professional Certificate in Asset Management Planning has proved increasingly popular with international participants since its launch.

To date, a total of eight international members have completed the course online, originating from locations as diverse as Canada and Malaysia.

A further 13 international members are in the process of completing the current online course.

City of Calgary Business Operations Analyst Troy Sykes was one of three from the Canadian council to complete the online course last year.

Sykes believes the course is well suited to international IPWEA members because it follows ISO 55001 standards and the asset management principles taught are universal.

“Asset Management is a field dominated by engineer professionals, as a non-engineer it is difficult to find a designation to illustrate your skill set,” he told PWPro.

“The IPWEA Professional Certificate course not only provides a valuable asset management education opportunity, it also gives participants an asset management certificate.”

IPWEA’s online course is delivered in eight modules over 11 weeks. Participants can interact with presenters and other participants during online ‘live’ sessions and are required to complete coursework to achieve the accreditation.

In particular, Sykes has found the whole-of-life costing taught on the course to be a great exercise that he has been able to use on various capital re-development projects.

“Take this course, not because it’s easy, but because it is hard,” said Sykes. “Participants will learn valuable asset management skills in a real life situation.”
